To call our basement "partially finished" on the listing was a bad lie. It was impractically laid out, poorly finished, and uncomfortable to spend any time in. There was no duct work behind it all so the temperature could not be regulated. There were no outlets or lighting. Since last July, we (well mostly Roger) have demolished walls and ceilings, roughed in a 1/2 bath, pulled up junky floor, rewired the electric, installed hvac, installed new windows, framed new walls, put up drywall and new recessed lights, and painted it all.
This was the basement last July, when we started demolishing it.
And then, it was all halted for a good two months because Roger and I could not, for the life of us, agree on flooring. So this was the basement in January. Roger built that feature wall for his new flatscreen. I really like how it makes a utility hallway for traffic and bathroom access. It will be more private for people in the bathroom and less distracting as the kids go back and forth between outside and upstairs to the kitchen.
Well, finally, we agreed on Flexitec vinyl for the play area near the door and the hallway, and carpet for the media area and the stairs. The flexitec was installed on Friday, and so here's what the basement looks like so far.
The carpet will be installed on Thursday. We picked a corn based fiber that is thick and stain resistant, but we got a darker color nonetheless. I'm not a fan of carpet, but Roger hates vinyl, so this basement really is a compromise! We still have some finishing touches to make, like painting the doors and putting them up. Just looking at these photos reminds me I'm supposed to pick up shallow recessed cans at Tristate. But soon we'll be hanging out in our new space.
